Crown Football Round-Up (27/07/2018)

This week Liverpool winger Ryan Kent signed a season-long loan deal with Rangers, where he will play in the Scottish Premiership and under the guidance of legend Steven Gerrard.

Speaking exclusively to RangersTV, Ryan explained: “I think when the opportunity came around to join a club of this magnitude, it was a bit of a no-brainer. They have got a person in charge now in Steven Gerrard who has played at the highest level and achieved many great things. So I think it is a really exciting move for me, and I am looking forward to the opportunity. I would say I am an exciting player, and I never hold back. I don’t fear getting on the ball, even if I’ve lost the ball. I am hopefully going to bring a lot of excitement to the fans here at Rangers".

And speaking at a press conference Steven Gerrard said of Ryan, "He is an attacking player who can play on either side, and he can also play as a number 10. He is quick, he is aggressive in possession in terms of one v ones, and he is an exciting player to watch and I am looking forward to seeing what he can contribute to Rangers.”

Ryan also made his debut for Rangers last night, in their Europe League match against NK Osijek. See his reaction to his debut and the 1-0 win below:

Good luck for the rest of the season Ryan!

Chris Maxwell put on an impressive display against Premier League side West Ham, after his penalty save. The West Ham skipper Mark Noble stepped up, but Maxwell guessed the right way, going low to his left to brilliantly keep the ball out.

Speaking on the penalty save (which was his 5th save from 12 penalties faced since joining the club!), Chris said "It is one of those things that I really enjoy, it is a win, win for a 'keeper because you are not supposed to save penalties and when you do against quality opposition it's the icing on the cake."

Adam Lewis has been playing for England U19 in the Under 19 Euro Championships in Finland. In their opening game the team sealed a 3-2 victory over Turkey and in their second game drew 1-1 with Ukraine. On Monday the team faced France, however a heavy defeat in their final Group B game meant that the Young Lions’ chances of defending the title they won in Georgia in 2017 came to an end.

Despite England’s premature elimination, the tournament has been a positive experience for Adam. “It’s been unbelievable to be honest. With it being my first tournament internationally, playing against good players, it’s different from my club and I’ve enjoyed it from the minute I stepped in here.”

Adam Phillips made his debut for Hamilton Academical on Tuesday, where the side sealed a comfortable win over League 2 side Berwick Rangers. Adam Phillips made an impressive debut, combining well with Scott McMann to give Mikel Miller a chance at goal.

After recently signing a new deal with Plymouth Argyle, Calum Dyson has since featured in most pre-season games for the side. Argyle travelled to Germany to face SV Schermbeck in a friendly. Throughout much of the game, Argyle struggled to create many opportunities, however it was Calum’s late header from Lionel Ainsworth’s free-kick that gave the Green Army the victory.

Sheffield Wednesday Under-23s continued their preparations for the 2018/19 season with a 2-1 victory away at Leicester City, including a goal from Connor Kirby, which saw the Owls come from behind to make it back to back pre-season wins.

Stephy Mavididi got on the scoresheet for Arsenal U23's on Wednesday in their game against Bayern U23's. Despite their 4-1 defeat Stephy put out an impressive performance.

18-year-old Max Sheaf made an appearance for Hull City in their friendly against Newcastle on Tuesday. He was subbed on for Evandro with 15 minutes of the match remaining. The Tigers held Premier League Newcastle United to a 2-2 draw at the KCOM Stadium.
