Crown Football Weekly Round-Up
It’s been a packed couple of weeks for Crown Football! We’ve had international call ups for Chris Maxwell who has been picked for the Wales friendlies against France on 10th November and Panama on 14th November, as well as Stephy Mavididi who was called up for England U20’s match against Germany on 14thNovember. Additionally, Corey Whelan also received a call up for Republic of Ireland U21’s for their match against Norway on 11th November and Alex Pascanu will be playing for Romania U21’s in their upcoming match against Portugal on 10th November and Wales on 14th November. Congratulations to all!
Ryan Edwards has played a crucial role for Plymouth this month, with the defender dominating at the back for his team and thus only conceding three goals in their last five games. Even after Plymouth secured their place in the second round of the FA Cup, with a 1-0 victory against Grimsby, Edwards has expressed that Plymouth still have a long way to go in their league campaign. He told Herald Sport that, “Obviously, we would have liked the draws to be converted into wins and that is what we are still working on.
“At the end of the day, we are still points short of where we want to be, and we need to gain them as quick as we can and climb up the table. But we had a good win the cup, away from the league, and it’s up to us to try to carry that on and hopefully get a result on Saturday. I feel like we have tightened up a lot defensively. Since Yann (Songo’o) has been in front of me and Sonny (Bradley) that has helped a lot. People are noticing it and he seems to be getting a lot of credit, and rightly so. He sometimes takes the pressure off me and Sonny, and the back four. I think that has played a big part in us tightening up and shutting up shop a bit. Hopefully we can keep doing that; we can come up with a few more goals and start getting more points.”
Edwards’ next game for Plymouth is against Bradford on 11th November.
Jak McCourt had a stunning game for Chesterfield in a thrilling match, which resulted in a 2-2 draw against Carlisle. McCourt provided the first goal of the match at 41 minutes, skimming a 25 yard free-kick inside Bonham’s right post. Thanks to McCourt’s fierce drive and determination, Chesterfield dominated the first half but unfortunately could not maintain momentum for the second half and Carlisle went on to lead. Chesterfield did not back down, and McCourt whipped in a beautiful cross that Dennis headed goal wards, only to see Bonham deflect the ball. The equaliser came for Chesterfield six minutes from time with a header from Dennis.
Andy Fleming scored a superb goal for Morecambe against Hartlepool, driving the team to a 3-0 win and a spot in the second round of the FA Cup. This was the first home win out of five for the Shrimps and although there were bad omens for the team before the match, with Fleming’s assistance they proved that they were more than ready for that place in the FA Cup. Morecambe started off the game with ferocity and forced Hartlepool goalkeeper into a save after just 30 seconds of play. The first goal for Morecambe came after four minutes, and Fleming cemented their lead in the second half as Oliver picked up a loose ball at the back and fed it through to Fleming who effortlessly went on to score. With the added confidence of Fleming’s goal, the Shrimps went on to score again and secure their first win against Hartlepool at home. Adam Lewis played a big role in Liverpool U18’s explosive 4-1 win against Rangers, scoring and providing an assist for the team. Right from the beginning of play Lewis was a crucial member of the squad. When the Reds were awarded a penalty on eight minutes, Lewis stepped up to the plate and confidently secured the first goal of the match. This set the tone for the rest of the match as the Reds dominated each minute. Just past the half hour mark, a brilliant one-two between Lewis and Curtis Jones saw Lewis deliver a perfect cross for Millar to create the third goal for the Reds. Tyler Magloire featured in a stunning 6-1 win for Rovers U23’s against Watford U23’s. The centre-back played extremely well and assisted his team in extending their unbeaten run to seven games, and moving them to the top of their group in the Premier League Cup. Connor Kirby had a great comeback when he featured in a win for Sheffield Wednesday U23’s in the Sheffield Derby. United looked to have the advantage in the first half with Tyler Smith edging them in front, but Wednesday triumphed thanks to goals from Joao and Abdi. Keep it up Connor!
