Lloyd Jones made the switch from Plymouth to Merseyside in time for the 2011-12 campaign, during which he was a constant feature for the Reds' U16s. Jones has been capped as a Welsh international for both his country's U17s and U18s sides and he has also represented England at U19 and U20 level on seven occasions. A powerful centre-back, Jones is extremely talented in the air. Never one to shirk a challenge, Lloyd is also a cultured defender, who is confident enough to play the ball out from the back. His heading and aerial abilities mean Jones is a highly-rated member of the Reds' set-up.
Such was his growth at the Academy in 2012-13, Jones was named on the substitutes' bench for the first time when the senior team travelled to face Fulham in the Premier League in May 2013. Lloyd had loan spells with Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley during 2014-15, then a similar move to Blackpool at the beginning of the following season. He was on the move again in August 2016, heading to Swindon Town for the duration of the campaign after signing a new contract with the Reds first. Lloyd has been included in the 25-man squad for the first team to compete in the Premier League and is a regular across the back four in the Premier League 2 competition.
The central defender returned to his native Devon to join Plymouth Argyle on loan until the end of the season in the January 2019 transfer window.
