Corey Whelan is a versatile defender, who is equally comfortable playing at right-back or centre-half. A Republic of Ireland U21 international, Corey has been at Liverpool since U10 level. Born in Chester, he was previously with Crewe Alexandra's Academy. Whelan made his U18s bow in the 2013-14 season and has continued to impress since. Corey is now the captain of the U23s squad and has recently achieved silverware for the Reds, when they won the Molson Coors Senior Cup Final on 1st September 2017. Corey has joined Yeovil Town on loan for the remainder of the 2017-18 season. Corey returned to Crewe Alexandra in September 2018, on a loan deal until January 2019. 

In July 2019 Corey signed a permanent deal with USL Championship side Phoenix Rising. Rising FC earned the USL Championship Regular Season Title on September 28th after playing New Mexico United to a 2-2 draw.
