ON LOAN FROM PRESTON NORTH END
St Asaph, Wales
Chris Maxwell became the first signing of the summer for North End in May 2016, joining North End from Fleetwood Town. The highly rated ‘keeper made over 100 appearances in the last two seasons with the Cod Army, and impressed the Highbury faithful, leading to the Welshman picking up the club’s player of the year award for the 2014/15 season. Maxwell was also nominated for the 2015 North West Football Awards’ League One player of the year, which was eventually won by Preston North End defender Paul Huntington.
The St Asaph-born stopper began his career at Wrexham, breaking through the youth ranks to go on to make his professional debut at the age of 18, before his move to Fleetwood four years later. Maxwell has represented Wales at youth level from U17s through to U23s, and was on stand-by for Chris Coleman’s Euro 2016 squad and trained with the senior side ahead of the tournament. Chris was called up to the 25-man Wales squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
In the July 2019 transfer window, Chris signed a loan deal with Hibernian until the end of the season.
